The central anthropological category in Zizioulas’ theology. A person is not an individual (defined by separation and self-containment) but a unique relational identity constituted through free communion with others. The concept is derived from the Trinitarian theology of the Cappadocian Fathers: personhood is an ontological, not merely a psychological or moral, category.
