A division in the Church’s eucharistic communion. Zizioulas, following St. Basil, treats schism as an ecclesiological paradox—what is by nature undivided is in fact divided. Schism occurs at different levels (baptismal, chrismational, eucharistic), which determines the appropriate mode of reception when unity is restored.
