The patristic principle: “the law of prayer is the law of belief.” What the Church prays expresses and guards what she believes. Theology must be derivable from and translatable back into prayer. This principle underlies Zizioulas’ eucharistic theology and his critique of scholastic theology severed from liturgical life.
