Florovsky, Georges

(1893–1979)

Russian Orthodox theologian and ecumenist who proposed the “neopatristic synthesis”—a return to the Greek Fathers as the creative foundation for Orthodox theology in dialogue with modernity. He argued that East and West are “Siamese twins” whose schism damaged the catholicity of both, and was a founding figure of the World Council of Churches.
