This book presents a systematic exploration of the theological vision of John Zizioulas, the renowned Greek Orthodox theologian and hierarch who has become one of the most recognizable voices of Orthodoxy in the West. Spanning his writings from 1965 to 2011, the study traces the development of Zizioulas’s thought—from his early ecclesiological focus toward the formulation of a mature theological personalism.
Alongside this internal intellectual progression, the book situates Zizioulas within the broader currents of twentieth-century Orthodox theology. It offers a concise overview of both Russian and Greek theological traditions and examines how Zizioulas sought to cultivate a fresh theological language that remains firmly rooted in the heritage of the Eastern Christian tradition.
The author, Sergii Bortnyk, Dr. theol. (born 1976), has been a lecturer at the Kyiv Theological Academy (Ukraine) since 2014.
