World Council of Churches

(WCC)

The ecumenical body founded in 1948, to which most Orthodox Churches belong. It provides a forum for theological dialogue between Christian traditions. Orthodox participation is distinguished by refusal of intercommunion (which would presuppose a unity not yet achieved) and by insistence that visible unity must be grounded in the Eucharist and in the faith of the ancient undivided Church.
