Repentance

(Metanoia)

The fundamental turning of the person away from self-centeredness toward God and others. It is the “narrow gate” of the spiritual life, indispensable but not sufficient: repentance opens the way to communion, but life itself is given in the Eucharist. Its Greek meaning—a change of mind—implies an ontological transformation, not merely moral reform.
