The philosophical inquiry into being. Zizioulas proposes a relational ontology derived from Trinitarian theology: being is constituted by relationship, not by self-contained substance. This stands in contrast to the substance-ontology of classical Greek philosophy and to individualism. “To be is to be in communion.”
