The uncreated operations or activities of God through which He is genuinely present and active in the world, distinguished from His unknowable essence. A key concept in Palamite theology (Gregory Palamas, 14th c.) is that saints truly see and participate in God through His energies, not His essence. Zizioulas stresses that the energies are always personal (hypostatic), not impersonal forces.
